The Last of Us
Domino Sugar Factory

The Last of Us x Domino Sugar Factory

To kick off Season 2 of The Last of Us, HBO Max and creative agency Giant Spoon teamed up with Superbien to stage a one-night-only visual takeover of Brooklyn’s legendary Domino Sugar Factory.

The goal : Craft a visceral, unforgettable moment. One that would spark conversation, stir emotion, and leave a mark. The challenge? Massive. Just 45 days to bring it all to life. No official footage to work with — HBO kept everything under wraps until airdate. And a landmark building with an uneven, brick-laced facade that left zero room for error.

We built a three-minute immersive show from scratch. Slowly, the factory’s walls began to mutate — infected by the iconic cordyceps from the show. They pulsed and spread like they were alive, crawling across the building’s surface in rhythm with a tension-filled score blending strings and raw, organic textures.

Then, the shift: A wave of red light floods the building, the ground, the skyline.
It’s not just color — it’s rebellion. A visual scream, seen from across the East River. Out of that chaos, the butterfly — this season’s symbol — emerges in a cloud of particles. Fragile and defiant.

For a few seconds, the facade plays host to never-before-seen scenes from the upcoming season. We rotoscoped, mapped, and reworked every frame so it would feel native to the architecture — like the building itself was remembering something. 500 people showed up. Over a million interactions online. Praise from the press. Hype from the fans. And above all, a proud nod from HBO and Giant Spoon.

That night in Brooklyn, the Domino Factory didn’t just show a story.
It became one.
