LOUIS VUITTON
SPEEDY TOUR
Digital Activations Around The World
Often, when individual elements are combined into alloys they create something that is not only stronger and more beautiful than its parts, but a truly unique composite. The same can be said of the methodologies Superbien utilized to create 3 digital campaign videos for Louis Vuitton’s new Speedy Bag launch in January of 2024.
The cornerstone of the narrative for the Speedy Tour campaign- and in some ways for the House of Louis Vuitton – is the art of travel. Designed to coincide with a series of physical activations around the world – where a giant, inflatable Speedy would appear in highly visible public spaces – the digital component needed to blur the line between real and imaginary, physical and digital.
From the Santa Monica Pier to the Brooklyn Bridge, the Eiffel Tower to the Shanghai Harbor, we see an oversized rendition of the Speedy, in new, vibrant colors, zigzagging the globe by way of a drone. This magical journey creates surprising and delightful moments where the Speedy intersects with some of the most stunning and iconic locales on the planet. But how did Superbien achieve this uncanny, photorealistic result efficiently?
Using a mixture of analog and digital tools, Superbien was able to articulate an array of dazzling textures, lighting scenarios and reflections. Matte painting – or creating a painted representation of a landscape – was a faster and more malleable solution to capture so many different locations in detail. Utilizing Unreal Engine – the leading 3D platform for building immersive experiences – designers could combine these backgrounds with true-to-life digital elements, creating depth and excitement in fantastical scenarios. Layering video capture, like closeups of the actual Speedy or wide shots of Paris at night, added the final authentic touch.
To convey Louis Vuitton and the updated Speedy’s timeless modernity, Superbien marries classic and contemporary content solutions. The highly shareable and downright cool Speedy Tour videos highlight all the emotion and possibility of travel, the promise of Louis Vuitton itself.
